Unlike paraffin or kerosene, pure olive oil produces very little smoke and does not release harsh toxins into the air, making it a cleaner choice for your home.
How to Use
Fill your lamp with redibles or light olive oil (lamp can hold approx 300ml of oil which will last for 20+ hours of burning) and allow the wick to fully absorb the oil to the tip before lighting. This may take 10 minutes or longer for the first use. Once saturated, light the wick and enjoy. The 6mm thick cotton wick burns slowly and will last for 100+ hours. This truely is a low maintenance and sustainable lamp.
NOTE: use pure or light olive oil rather than extra virgin olive oil, as EVOO is thicker and contains more natural minerals that can create a dull or flickering flame. EVOO is too thick to soak up the wick well. I suggest using Coles Simply Olive Oil | 1L
Safety Information
Olive oil has a naturally high flash point, meaning it is less flammable than many common lamp oils. If the lamp tips or the wick falls into the oil, the flame will be smothered and extinguish itself quickly.
As with any open flame:
- Always burn within sight
- Keep away from children, pets, and flammable materials
- Never move the lamp while lit
- Place on a stable, heat-safe surface (the base of the lamp will not get hot while it is burning but the lid will)
Each piece is individually handmade, meaning slight variations in shape, glaze and texture are part of the character and uniqueness of your lamp.
